ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Lwai, a fourth-year dental student at King’s College London. While my degree has given me a solid grounding in clinical dentistry, it’s the hands-on experiences, leadership roles, and opportunities to engage with the wider profession that have shaped who I am as an aspiring clinician.

I’m committed to continually improving myself both inside and outside the clinic. I’ve taken part in a wide range of clinical courses, from anterior composites and crown preparations to implant dentistry and cadaveric suturing, each helping me refine my practical skills and deepen my understanding of high quality patient care. I’ve also been fortunate enough to shadow leading clinicians from around the world, which has broadened my perspective on what it means to deliver dentistry at the highest level.

As I approach my final year, I’m focused on staying adaptable, curious, and ready to meet the evolving demands of modern dentistry.

Beyond the clinical setting, I’m passionate about charity work, sports, and entrepreneurship. In 2025, I joined Healthy Smiles for Syria in their mission to improve the oral health of children affected by the Syrian conflict, creating educational materials to support their outreach. In 2024, I co-founded UK Dental Students, now the largest dental student community on WhatsApp in the UK, and collaborated with industry leaders such as FMC to deliver the NXT-Gen Forum at the North of England Dentistry Show. Since 2021, I’ve also been a committed member of my university’s football team, which has taught me teamwork, discipline, and leadership in a completely different environment.

These experiences have strengthened my communication skills, sense of responsibility, and passion for working collaboratively, all qualities I hope to carry with me as I progress towards life as a clinician.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Project Manager - College of Medicine and Dentistry (01/10/23 – 01/07/24)

I have been the lead of a multidisciplinary department that has worked closely with other departments and executives, ranging from academic teams, marketing, and operations. During my time as a Project Manager, I have come up with ideas and proposals to increase the awareness of the College via use of social media, public speaking events and convention centres. I both attended and organised the College’s stand at the AEEDC conference 2024, the world’s largest dental convention. This involved arranging to have banners, flyers, wall art and social media marketing designed each with different specific deadlines that were required to be met. At the conference my role was to increase awareness of the College in the Middle East, to which I was able to use my fluency in Arabic to communicate with the locals.

Marketing Executive - College of Medicine and Dentistry (01/06/22 – 01/10/23)

I worked as part of an international team of marketing directors and other executives. During my time as a marketing executive, I have come up with ideas and proposals to increase the awareness of the College via use of social media, public speaking events and convention centres. I attended the AEEDC conference in Dubai in February of 2023 to spread awareness and enrol potential students onto courses at the College which was a huge success. I was an integral part of designing the banners at the stand including the written materials such as leaflets and handouts. Additionally, to this I also attended the Birmingham Dentistry show in May 2023 and the London Dentistry show in October 2023, both of which I was an integral part of designing the campaign for the events and an integral part of enrolling potential students onto the course.

Volunteer - St Johns Ambulance (2016 - 2021)

During my time at school, I joined the local St Johns Ambulance as a volunteer and completed a basic first aid qualification. I had the chance to work with other first aid officers, providing emergency help during public events in Stratford upon Avon.

Volunteer - Refugee Centre, Amman, Jordan (2018)

The summer before my A-levels I volunteered in a refugee centre in Jordan, where I observed the profound impact of poor oral health on an individual and how the smallest of measures taken by a dentist can have a huge positive impact. My roles during my time volunteering included talking to the locals and hearing and sympathising with them, helping me work on and develop my communication skills.
